“Whew, that made me tired,” Steve Worley said after walking 580 feet with Craig Tilton, Physical Therapy Assistant.
Steve Worley was welcomed to our community at SHC of Monteagle in December 2016. When he first came to this community, Steve struggled to communicate and had not walked in four years. He had struggled to find a long term home where he could thrive and be comfortable. When first admitted, he needed physical assistance for all activities of daily living, presented with poor standing balance, and had severe expressive and receptive language deficits.
Steve began participating in skilled therapy. He was evaluated by a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and a Speech Language Pathologist. Steve worked hard towards meeting his goals. With the help of his therapists, he was able to surpass his prior level of function and is now an active member in our community.
During his time working with therapy, Steve met 16 short-term and long-term goals and made significant improvement in his ability to participate in activities of daily living and communicates his wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas. He improved from severe deficits in his ability to understand and communicate to being able to follow directions, answer questions, and communicate his thoughts and feelings. Steve improved from not having walked in years to walking over 350 feet consistently with his favorite staff members. Steve is now actively participating in residential community activities and communication with peers.
Steve has been a blessing to our community and the staff at SHC Monteagle are extremely proud of his hard work and tenacity.
